This was an very enjoyable book - complex writing by a Scandinavian author. His descriptions of nature are exceptional; however, I was left with many questions about the characters. Tron, a 67-year old man reviews his life after meeting someone from his boyhood while retreating to a remote cabin in the woods.

I recommend this one.

The writing was good but I was disappointed by the ending. I was expecting more; Entertainment Weekly review says "But the real trick is in the way everything finally, neatly converges into an emotional jolt" Somehow I interpreted that to mean that all the threads of the story would be tied together and we would have a revelation. No revelation in the ending, just a sad remembrance, a sad question.
The story is about a man, remembering when he was a boy and in particular the summer he was 15. While the descriptions were so seamless that I really didn't notice them as such, just absorbed them, the story was slow moving and very sad.

I enjoyed this story but felt the ending was rather abrupt. I guess I expected the ending to be in the present and not when he was a teenager. So I felt a bit let down by it.

Set in Norway, the book jumps back and forth between present day when Trond, now a 67yo widower moves into the boonies where he had lived with his father during the summers as a teen in the 1940s. Jumps back and forth, without warning, but was good at keeping you guessing. The title refers to a summer prank of really stealing horses, as well as a code word during the war when his father was a courier with info to Swedish recipients when Norway was occupied.

Released 3 yrs ago (2/6/2021 UTC) at United States Post Office - 1586 Sumneytown Pike in Kulpsville, Pennsylvania USA
