These stories, which won Africa's highest literary award in 1984, announce an impressive new voice from South Africa's black townships. Njabulo Ndebele combines assured narrative skill with a delicacy that finds powerful expression by looking at apartheit society.

I read this book for the 1 Jahr = 1 Land-Lifetime Challenge for South Africa.
Well, it seems that Ndebele's writing isn't quite my style. The topics of the stories were interesting and the atmosphere was great - I like dark and gloomy books. But the characters stay sort of one-dimensional, so the stories didn't get me. They just didn't get my interest.
