Stevens is a butler who sets out on a motoring holiday through west England in the 1950s and undergoes a simultaneous trip down memory lane. Starts out a little slow, but then the meandering story gets its own pace and you suddenly find yourself involved with this stiff and emotionally-restrained character. A story of what might have been and how in hindsight one's life can be empty and misguided. Sad.
