from the back cover:
"On November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered by blasts from a shotgun held a few inches from their faces. There was no apparent motive for the crime and there were almost no clues.

As Truman Capote reconstructs the murder and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the killers, he generates both mesmerizing suspense and astonishing empathy. In Cold Blood is a work that transcends its moment, yielding poignant insights into the nature of American violence."

Truman Capote is a masterful story teller. He tells the story of the murder of the Clutter family with such attention to detail that the reader feels like a fly on the wall, watching the events take place in real time.

This book is a definite must read.

I read this book many, many years ago while I was in high school. I remembered the story but not all the details. What really stood out for me reading the book this time around was the absolute senselessness of the murders. The killers had no ties to the victims that they targeted. It is frightening to know that there are people like them in our midst.
