There comes a time in every teacher’s life when he must face his Nemesis -- the four-yearly Ofsted Inspection. The immediate bête noire of Head of Sixth Form, Peter Maxwell, is the attractive and vivacious Sally Meninger.
Out on the town one night to relieve the tension, Maxwell finds her in an intimate situation with her fellow Inspector, Alan Whiting. When Whiting is found stabbed to death at the school, Maxwell cannot help but notice that Sally is not as distraught as might be expected. He begins to understand why she appears unmoved when he catches Sally in flagrante with his Headteacher, James Diamond. Events move quickly and Diamond is arrested on suspicion of the murder of Whiting.
But is it that simple? Aided by his inside informant, lover DS Jacquie Carpenter, Maxwell sets out to prove that his colleague is innocent. And the only way to do it is to take on the Inspectors one by one.

I love this Mad Max series & can't believe how few people have come across him.
As always, a good murder mystery with some cracking lines from Mad Max, his dry wit & sarcasm are a joy-if you enjoy the Frost novels than you're sure to love this!
I hope this copy finds him some new fans...he deserves it :o)

I'm one of the people who have never come across "Mad Max" and I'm looking forward to making his acquaintance. Thanks for thinking of me PC I will add it to Mt TBR.
I'm very glad to have met Mad Max at last. I found this a very funny book, so many witty one liners and countless literary, music and film textual references ( I'm sure many more went over my head!) that made me laugh out loud. This autor is now on my mental "must read more of" list.
Thanks for the intro P-c

Adding this to Riffraff's Rather Random Book Box.
I took the book out of RiffRaffs rather random book box.
I agree with Plum-crazy and Yorkshirelass, there are lots of funny bits and lots of dry wit coming from Mad Max, but the story itself did not grip me at all. In the end I abandoned the book halfway through.
