'Have you ever wondered what happened to your first love?

Imagine bumping into her twelve years after you last saw her and realising you still fancy her rotten. This is what happens to Dig Ryan when he sees Delilah again.

Now imagine you're Nadine.

You've been Dig's best friend for the last fifteen years, and you've just realised that you're in love with him. Delilah was your nemesis at school and it turns out she still is. When she resurfaces, you might find yourself feeling extremely jealous and start doing really childish things. Like phoning your first love, Phil. Just to get your own back.

This is a story about ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends and what happens when you start messing with the past.

And how sometimes what you're looking for isn't in the past or the future, but right under your nose.'

Just one of the loveliest books I've ever read...nothing serious or terribly thought-provoking, just really, really good fun. :O)

You know when you read a book, and something really good happens, and it's just the way you would have said it, or thought it, or written it, and the story-line runs a quirkily happy parallel with events in your own life, and you get that kind of delighted giggly feeling and find yourself grinning away in spite of yourself, and your partner asks what you're smiling at...and when you've finished the book, you hand it over to him, and he grins all the way through it too, and loves it just as much as you did?

Pretty rare, right? But such a great treat when it happens, and this book did it for me! :O)

Found this copy in a charity shop in Beverley today on a BC day out with Olliebear and our respective pixies, and it instantly appealed to me for a bookring...this is a book I'm really excited about sharing...did I already mention how good it is? ;O)

So a bookring it is!

It'll be heading out today (Thursday)...as it will keep on moving for as long as there are eager readers to be found, if you'd like to be added on to the list at any time, just PM me or drop me a line through my homepage.

***Please bear in mind that there's a list of eager readers patiently waiting to read the book after you. With that in mind, I would ask that you endeavour to get it back on the road again within a couple of weeks of receiving it. If your turn is rapidly approaching and you find that you're up to your armpits in rings and rays, do drop me a line and we'll work something out.***

And if you've read this far...well, you're a better man than I! ;O)

Oh my goodness! I've never participated in such a well attended ray :-) Well, I will do my best to read this quick and send it along. Love the cover art!

Journal Entry 6 by PostMuse from Wellfleet, Massachusetts USA on Friday, June 27, 2003
I love that this story takes place in UK, my second favorite place in the world after Slovakia. The author has a string of positive press and reviews and I can tell only a few chapters in that I like the style. However, at this moment in my life this is not a book I should be reading ;-) I will pass on it and perhaps come back to this author in a few months. Heading off to moogytee tomorrow.

Thank you lucycat for introducing me to Lisa Jewell!

Journal Entry 7 by moogytee from Sacramento, California USA on Friday, July 11, 2003
The book has arrived in California! Thanks, zmrzlina & lucycat.

I am currently finishing up a bookray book, and I also have yet another bookray book to read (it was inevitable that this would happen sometime!) ... but I will skillfully juggle the 3 bookrays and get this book back out on the road soon.

Journal Entry 8 by moogytee from Sacramento, California USA on Friday, July 25, 2003
I really enjoyed this book ... I wasn't sure I would til the first flashback, and then I was hooked.

Especially realistic to me was how (1) Nadine found it easier to be kind to people she didn't like than those she did, and (2) how Delilah turned out to be totally normal and nice despite her teenage persona, etc.

I hope this is made into a movie -- it would work really well, I think.

Fun & good, and a quick read to boot. Thanks, lovely Lucy!

Journal Entry 9 by moogytee from Sacramento, California USA on Monday, July 28, 2003
Just one more quick note before this heads off to the next reader ...

I was looking at this book on Amazon, and the American cover is AWFUL! Check it out.

It's with actual photos of (supposedly) the 2 main characters, but they look nothing like they are described in the book (with the possible exception of Nadine's hair).

I'm sooooooooo glad I read Lucy's book with the nice cover; I would not have enjoyed the book nearly as much if I had read it with this cover ...

Anyway, just had to vent. :)

This book arrived safe and sound today. I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Journal Entry 11 by caligula03 from Hayward, California USA on Sunday, August 31, 2003
I'm just starting the book now. I've read the first page and I can feel the quirky style pulling me right in. I should have this in the mail by this coming Saturday. :)

Journal Entry 12 by caligula03 from Hayward, California USA on Tuesday, September 2, 2003
I will have this book finished tomorrow. As fate would have it, I started reading this book just after I turned thirty (or thirtynothing) as the female protagonist calls it. All the descriptions of eating cheap curries made me crave a good curry today and I treated myself to one at lunch.

I'm finding this book to be bitter sweet. There are some very funny bits and some very sad bits. On a one to one level I don't find myself relating to either protagonist. I married my college sweetheart and we're still happily married. This book is a glimpse of what could have been if I hadn't actively persued my then boyfriend (now husband). If you're single -- let me tell you this -- people don't read body language at all. If you like someone -- TELL THEM! :)

Release planned for Saturday, September 06, 2003 at sent to fellow bookcrosser in Asheville, North Carolina USA.

I'm mailing out ThirtyNothing to MarthaMinx this Saturday. I completely enjoyed this book and was tickled pink by the ending. :)

Journal Entry 14 by MarthaMinx from Asheville, North Carolina USA on Friday, September 12, 2003
Just received in the mail today, and from the first page I already know I will enjoy this little book. I just started another decent sized bookray book, but will get to this one as soon as I can, journal it, and send it on it's merry way. :)

Journal Entry 15 by MarthaMinx from Asheville, North Carolina USA on Monday, October 6, 2003
What a fun, light little read! I found myself gently pulled along throughout the book, eager to know what happens to dear Dig and lovely Nadine. Don't we all have those past loves in our lives that we wonder what has become of them? Just as the book shows, you never know what paths someone's life has taken since your long-ago high school days. If only to sit down with those people we once put on pedestools, and see that they are as human and flawed as the rest of us!

And to fall in love with one's best friend...and have that love returned...again, what a delicious little book. Thanks, lucycat!

Sending it out to Grover3d in the mail today-- Enjoy!!

Journal Entry 16 by grover3d on Sunday, November 2, 2003
OK, there are LOTS of people after me, so I'll read quickly!

Journal Entry 17 by grover3d on Tuesday, November 11, 2003
Pretty standard British chick-lit. I did love Digby though, but boy was that poor little guy surrounded by craziness! Thanks for sharing this!

Got this in the mail today. It's uncanny. I have signed up for about 5 bookrings/rays in the past 6 months, and 4 of them came in the mail today. I will do my best to power through the pile quickly, but a little patience may be required. Thanks everyone for sending this along.

Journal Entry 19 by miss-efficiency from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Friday, February 27, 2004
Very cute, just what I was in the mood for. It definitely has some laugh-out-loud funny moments. Unfortunately I can't get into anymore detail without spoiling the book.

I'm about to PM the next person, and hopefully this will be on its way shortly.

Released on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 at International Post in postal mail, A Bookray Controlled Releases.

Sending off on its way to Gyd in Spain as the next three people on the list after me opted out of this ring. Its their loss because, like all the other Lisa Jewell books I've read before this one, it was a great read.

TBR as soon as I finish the one I'm currently reading (it won't take long) .

A fast read but very predictable. The best bit for me involves Dig, Digby and a open window =D.
To be sent as soon as I get Mfa address.

Journal Entry 27 by Gyd from Barcelona, Barcelona Spain on Friday, August 6, 2004
I've been trying to contact Mfa and Takland but they must be out of reach by now. With Lucycat's permission there will be a slight change in the order of the BookRay.

Journal Entry 31 by Dani75 from -- irgendwo in Baden-Württemberg, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Friday, November 19, 2004
This was fun to read ! Thanks for this ray, Lucycat.

The book is now on the way to mfa in Portugal!

Journal Entry 32 by mfa from Lisboa - City, Lisboa (cidade) Portugal on Sunday, December 19, 2004
ooops, i was about to break this ring's nice rhythm... i got it and read it a few weeks ago and completely forgot to journal it. no one told me that one of the side effects of pregnancy was to turn me into such a lousy bookcrosser.

as a thirty-nothing myself, i was quite looking forward to reading this. Somehow i knew (hm, maybe because it is a lucycat's ring?...) that it wasn't silly and badly written chick lit. i was impressed by the style straight away and when the new model army were mentioned tears came into my eyes (it's the hormones, not just the nostalgy, i hope). althoug a bit perdictable indeed, the plot was quite interesting.
however, how come all these bridget jones sequels have to end like brasilian soap operas, with everybody getting married?! why can't, just once, a thirty-nothing simply reach the conclusion that she/he is better off on her/his own?
i can't help thinking that all chik lit, intelligent or otherwise, seems to fall pray to the same traditional happy-ending trap. there are other life style options but marriage for such a fascinating age group, but they never, ever, are described as anything but a joke or a tragedy.
finally, i want to know what happens to poor digby-the-dog in the end - who will look after the wee thing after all?

Journal Entry 33 by TramGirl from Ballarat, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, January 4, 2005
Recieved this in the post last night, thanks mfa for sending it on to me! Will get to it by the weekend!!

Journal Entry 34 by TramGirl from Ballarat, Victoria Australia on Sunday, January 16, 2005
I finished this book over the weekend, found it to be quite a good read although a bit predictable in the end, I was just waiting for them to 'come to their senses' and get it together. It was an interesting twist with Delilah (is she crazy/unhinged/pregnant) but I could've screamed at Nadine when she let Phil stay at her house while she was away!!!! But I enjoyed it overall and quite liked Lisa Jewell's writing style.

Anyway waiting on Snootchy to get back to me with her address, if not by the end of the week I will PM the next in line!

Journal Entry 35 by TramGirl from Ballarat, Victoria Australia on Sunday, February 6, 2005
7/2 - I finally found someone that wanted the book, or rather answered my PM's! I guess b/c people most likely signed up for the book nearly 2 years ago there are a number of people who are no longer active bookcrossers! Therefore I had to skip Snootchy, Luv2Read57 and Kbgoffe before the book was posted to Ratmammy. It is travelling airmail so hopefully won't take to long to arrive!

Journal Entry 36 by ratmammy from San Diego, California USA on Thursday, February 10, 2005
Got the book today! wow.. from austrailia, no less.... will try to sneak in this book in the next few weeks. i'm a fast reader, so it should be going out again in about that time....
