Perennially dateless student Yota Moteuchi finds love when he rents a video starring cute idol Ai Amano and she pops out of the television to land in his bed! But things get complicated when Ai is recalled as "defective" and sent back to the video world whence she came by her heartless creator.
Ai is malfunctioning, so her creator recalls her. He wants to destroy her, but she begs for a second chance. He makes her promise not to confess her love for Yota, and not to interfere in his attempts to get together with Moemi. Ai reluctantly agrees so she can continue to be close to Yota. Soon a new guy enters Ai's life - Takao Sorayama, pervert extraordinaire!
Meanwhile, Moemi is being torn with doubt. She has finally gotten what she wanted - a relationship with Takashi - but they are unable to communicate and her thoughts constantly stray to Yota. She needs to figure out which guy she really loves.
The art is just fantastic. Katsura has this wonderful, unique style, and he can bring a whole new emotion to the image just by changing the shading or switching the direction of a single line. I love it!

I recently got another copy of this manga in the 'new' unflipped format, so I'm making this one available.

read this today. this volume was enjoyable overall (although it seems much more shoujo than shounen), but i'm not sure about the series itself. it's sort of typical middle school melodrama, so it's hard to take the more-serious moments very seriously. also the melodrama is a bit too melodramatic, even for me.
including in nimrodiel's Manga & Graphic novel book box (https://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/20/558616)
This came back in my manga and graphic novel book box. I have been watching the journal entries on the coloring book box journal and wondering what will end up back with me. There was quite a lot of variety in the box at the end and I am happy to see many books that I have not read before.
So this is the type of magical girl stories I loved as a teenager. I also suspect I may have seen the anime years ago as this story was very familiar. I have to admit I really really enjoyed the artwork in his volume quite a bit. Thanks for sending this my way spacedog. I don't pick up this style story often anymore and this was a nice revisit to an old favorite plot type.
