Picked this up in Tassie over New Year at the markets while on holiday. It is on the 1001 Books list so thought I would give it a go. Turned out to be one of the most amazing books I ever read ... and by the way, guessing the book's premise early on or halfway through doesn't lessen its ultimate impact. A very simple book, but extremely thought provoking and ultimately quite dark. Highly recommended.

Looking forward to reading this one. Thanks Running-gal!
Just loved this book. It was haunting and disturbing but even so the characters were very likeable and I went through their experiences with them wondering how they could accept their fate so easily without rebelling more than they did. A prophetic look into the future.
I especially could relate to the times in the boarding school. How can Ishiguro know so much about young girls at boarding school. I was in a boarding school and I tell you this book brought back so many memories even though it's nothing to do with the boarding school syndrome!
thanks running-gal for sharing it. should be back with you soon.

Picked up from meetup. Will go on TBR pile for now.
I find myself wanting to say I liked this book, but really that's not the way to describe it. I would recommend this book, and it was definitely a worthwhile read, but I found it disturbing and at times uncomfortable. The story itself is not uncomfortable, but the whole premise makes me squirm - I just plain don't like it! As Arriety said, I also found the characters accepted their fate so easily, I just wanted them to rebel! I just hope this book is not prophetic!
