"Haunted is a novel made up of twenty-three horrifying, hilarious, and stomach-churning stories. They’re told by people who have answered an ad for a writer’s retreat and unwittingly joined a “Survivor”-like scenario where the host withholds heat, power, and food. As the storytellers grow more desperate, their tales become more extreme, and they ruthlessly plot to make themselves the hero of the reality show that will surely be made from their plight. This is one of the most disturbing and outrageous books you’ll ever read, one that could only come from the mind of Chuck Palahniuk."
Chuck has really let me down this time! I HATED this book. I almost didn't finish it, but I was so hoping that he would make a sudden redemption at the end, I kept reading. The characters were poorly developed, The brief interludes between stories did nothing but make me more frustrated with it. I don't recommend this book to anyone and if you feel compelled to read it, remember that this is not representative of what Chuck Palahniuk has to offer as an author.

I had a really hard time getting into this book, took me months to get past the first couple of chapters - once I did I was hooked, but more in a train wreck kind of a way.
I have read other Chuck Palahniuk books that were more compelling and had more developed characters, but I wouldn't completely disregard this one if you can get past the gore. I agree that I wish it had some more meaning to all of it once you get to the end, something that tied it all together.
