Small Wonder: Essays
4 journalers for this copy...
I have only glanced through this book. I was delighted to find a 2nd copy on the 50 cent shelf at work because I have a bookcrossing friend who I know will appreciate it.
This book is off to California for a visit with JDT. Surprise!

A small wonder! What a wonderful surprise to receive this Kinsolver book of essays in the mail today - the start of a low-key Memorial Day weekend!
I've just read the powerful forward, and enjoyed the beautiful little illustrations at the start of each chapter.
Thanks so much, Ardy!
It truly is the small wonders in life that make the difference.

Wonderful collection of Barbara Kingsolver's essays - reflecting her respect/reverence for nature, political/women's issues viewpoints,
perspectives on family, mother, daughter relationships - with a backdrop of our unsettling experience/feelings of 9/11.
Perhaps I prefer her novels/fiction all in all.
Some essays came across a bit preachy - even when I agreed with her values and musings.
But I appreciate her honest grappling with issues and values. Her "Letter to My Mother" was especially powerful/poignant for me.
And I loved the book title and cover photos, the little story that starts the first essay, and the reminder to appreciate the small wonders in life.
Thanks again, Ardy!
Sending this book to gensparkie - enjoy!

Just got this book in a trade from JDT. Thanks! It looks great. I'll likely read it soon and put it in my next bookbox.
I too think I enjoy her fiction more, but this was an excellent and absorbing book. Her essay to her daughter was the one I enjoyed most, since I haven't met many people like her daughter, who have that incredible attractive confidence in themselves. Her politics do sometimes come off as a tiny bit preachy, but I enjoyed hearing her rationale about a lot of things, and her essays were all certainly thought provoking.
A good read!
Going into my Ungenre Box.

I couldn't pass up this new Kingsolver book of essays. This is my first look at the BookCrossing bookplates...beautiful. Will read and report more soon....
Barbara Kingsolver, novelist and naturalist, writes in Small Wonder her thoughts on raising chickens, motherhood, television, war. She is at her best when she writes about what she knows, birds and crabs, gardens and rivers, daughters and deserts.

It was hard for me to release a book that has been journaled so many times into the wild, but I did it today! It's on the bookshelf.
