I am sure I got this at a yard sale or thrift store, but not sure when. I got it as I have liked what little I have read by this author & I think this one is on that horrible 1001 books to read before you die list. I say horrible as there are so many books out in the world that I felt were great that are not on there and to be told this is what you should do before you die as far as reading seems silly to me. Read what makes you happy...if it is on a list then fabulous! I have however read the list and take it like it is...a guideline ; )

"Second hand books are wild books, homeless books; they have come together in vast flocks of variegated feather, and have a charm which the domesticated volumes of the library lack." --Virginia Woolf

"A book is a mysterious object, I said, and once it floats out into the world, anything can happen. All kinds of mischief can be caused, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it. For better or worse, it's completely out of your control."
Paul Auster
