From the inside front cover: "Biography, autobiography and family memoir, In My Father's House is a riveting and ultimately shocking portrait of desire both overt and suppressed, and the heartbreaking consequences of misplaced love. Searingly honest and written with great style and grace, it is a portrait of a lost world, a lost love, and of the efforts we make to avert the repititions of history."
I cannot even imagine living with a man who was so self involved, unaware of and unconcerned with the feelings of his family. As they all held on to the past, it seems like everything around them crumbled. This is quite the story and unfortunately, it is true.
This is going into my Family Members Virtual bookbox.

This book arrived today as one of my picks in the Family VBB. Thank you Loveamystery. It looks interesting.
This is the story of the authors father who she doesn't appear to like very much. In her eyes he comes across as a pompous snob, who was critical of his wife and children. Not only did he neglect them but he had a long standing relationship with another man much younger than himself.
This book has been here in Canada too long. It is now heading for a slow trip to the United Kingdom. Hopefully it won't take too long to get there. It will be spending time with a very deserving BookCrosser.

This is a book about a father's obsessive love for a house to the detriment of his family. Its written from the perspective of the daughter although she didn't like her father. She did admit she was a lot like him! It was interesting but not what I was expecting.
