Picked this up (unregistered) at the OBCZ in Flensburg.
"Pigs might not fly but they are strangely altered. So, for that matter, are wolvs and racoons. A man, once named Jimmy, now calls himself Snowman and lives in a tree, wrapped in old bed sheets. The voice of Oryx, the woman he loved, teasingly haunts him. And the green-eyed Children of Crake are, for some reason, his responsibility.
Welcome to the outrages imagination of Margret Atwood."
Will put it on to my Mt. TBR for now.

Intriguing story describing a science that might not be that far off from today - who knows. It feels a bit as if M.A. thought of what could come many years after the situation in "The Handmaid's Tale". I liked the style of starting in the present and the flashbacks explaining how the present situation developed.
If there is enough interest I will start a bookring.
There is:
1. laure69 (France)
2. marsala (UK)
3. SerendipityN (Germany)
4. dutch-book (NL)
5. bellivas (Greece)
and back to me.
21.3. On its way today.

I've just got it. It hadn't been put into the right mailbox.
Thank you.
Thank you.
What a strange book ! I wasn't expecting that. It is not bad but the real plot isn't clear and there are many questions unanswered. There's no end either. Sure you can imagine your own sequel but it's a little like a fairy tale where you wouldn't know whether they were going to get married. It's the author's job to tell the story.
Everything here is about genetic research but there could have been many other things to talk about. So I'm staying a little frustrated and not totally convinced.
The book is leaving for marsala tomorrow

This book arrived safely today. Looking forward to reading it!
I finished it and I absolutely enjoyed it. It is all a bit weird and offbeat. And yes, it does leave a lot of questions. But this is still a work of fiction and not a book about genetics, so I don't really mind that not everything got explained. Also I like it when a book has a bit of a vague ending, because that means that the story still continues, eventhough the book has finished, if that makes sense. This way I can think of things that might happen after.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
On its way to the next reader.
Arrived today, thank you very much. I'm really looking forward to reading this once more!
I enjoyed the novel as much as I did when I read it for the first time some time ago. Back then I was intrigued by the title and I like this kind of somewhat (post-)apocalyptic story anyway. I hesitated to pick it up, though, because I didn't like Atwood's Handmaid's Tale at all. But Oryx & Crake is great. I like both the story and the author's style.
Now I'm going to re-read The Year of the Flood, too, because I guess I missed a number of Oryx & Crake references last time. I can only recommend this to all of you. It doesn't pick up where we left Snowman, but rather tells the story from a different point of view.
Thank you very much for this ring! :-)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
After carrying it around with me for a few days I've finally managed to post it today.
Book arrived yesterday, but wasn't able to journal it as it was my birthday. I've once read a excerpt from this book at high school. I didn't really understand it back then, but now my english is much improved and I think that now is the time to read it.
I finished it yesterday and I really loved it. Such a quick read. Very imaginative, but at the same time so believable. It has really surprised me as it was such a different reading experience as it was in high school (back then I just didn't understand it.) I've added it's sequel (it's a serie!) The year of the flood to my wishlist, that's how much I loved it. I've sent bellivas a PM at the beginning of this week and haven't heard back yet. I really hope to be able to send this book on before I go on vacation to France. I will PM once again.
And
And
Back to dschinny, as bellivas hasn't answered. Thank you for ringing this book!
Thanks for returning the book. But maybe sending it opened in the middle and stuffed that way into an A4 envelope is not the best way to send it as it damages the spine...
