Passed by a friend, not my cup of tea but somebody else might enjoy it.

Bit of a cross between a Mills & Boon and a Maeve Binchy novel. Its set in an Irish village beginning in the 1920s and the early years of the IRA, and moving forward to pre-WW2.

Two best friends; Julia, who marries her soldier boyfriend when he returns from WW1, and Sarah, who goes into service and gets pregnant by the son of the household she goes to work for and is thrown out. The relationship between the two friends is destroyed when Sarah falsely accuses Julia's husband of sheltering IRA fugitives and he is shot by the British. Years later, Julia's daughter falls in love with Sarah's son and Julia must decide between losing her daughter or accepting her new son-in-law.
