From the back:
When Mole goes boating with the Water Rat instead of spring cleaning, he discovers a world he never knew about. As well as the river and the Wild Wood, there is Toad's craze for fast travel - which leads him and his friends on a whirl of trains, barges, gipsy caravans and motor cars, into a lot of trouble, and even a battle.

I just loved this book. It's a perfect escape from the trials and tribulations of everyday life. The last time I encountered The Wind in the Willows, I was 12 years old and had just moved house and started at a new school. I remember that it was being done as the school play and an inspired casting made the Toad an hilarious character that was completely unforgettable!!
