This was one of the books which I had to study in detail for A-level. I must say that I found it unsatisfactory and confusing, as we are never quite sure what really did happen (if anything) on that fateful day at the cave. Undoubtedly this was the author's intention, as a metaphor for the inability of westerners to grasp the subtleties and contradictions of Indian life. Notwithstanding, I will probably never read this book again. I much preferred Forster's 'Room With a View'.

I took this book because it was left over. I all ready have two copies of this one, but I love this front cover, so I will put it for show in my bookcase for a time!
The book had been in my bokcase for some time, front cover showing. Now it is reserved to go with me to Florence to be released there.
