Turning this into a bookring!

How the bookring works:

1) Please journal as soon as you receive the book so we can keep track of where it's at. You can keep the book for 2-6 weeks. If your turn comes up and you can't read it within that time frame, please let me know. We can skip you and move you further down the list so you can read it later.

2) When you finish the book, PM the next person in line to get their mailing address. Order is subject to change, so please make sure you check before sending! Make a second journal entry about the book letting us know what you thought and that you've sent it to the next person. Feel free to mail the book using the least expensive method of shipping.

3) The last person should PM me for my address and send it back to me.

A very enjoyable read, I was surprised to find this was a translation, and that I enjoyed it because often that is not the case. The story was different than I anticipated, but in a good way and infused with humor in the face of adversity (no books - a nightmare). Illustrated nicely a story with many layers and how imagination can change things :)

I just finished reading this.

I was completely enamoured with the writing in this book up until the final chapters, at which point, for some bizarre reason, other characters took up the narrative. I found that so horribly distracting and unnecessary. Funny how such a seemingly small flaw might ruin an otherwise great piece of literature.

Aside from that minor digression, I rather enjoyed the book. I have to agree with others; I don't think it was quite what I was expecting, but I'm not disappointed.

This book returned home safely to me today! Thank you to everyone who participated in the ring, and a special thank you to all these pieces for the beautiful ATC she tucked inside the front cover before sending it to me. I will be adding this to a bookbox soon.

I really liked this coming of age story set in communist China, although the ending was really sad! The movie was good too.
