Pulled off Mt TBR for the reduce challenge, this is a read in one or two sittings book. The cover quote says 'Extremely funny' but it is much more. The basis of the plot is farce, but through it the narrator tells us of the hidden family secrets and harsh background to her childhood. The reasons for the strange behaviour of her family become more evident as the story is revealed.

My May newsletter from CARP[Canadian Association of Retired People] was about elder abuse and this book was recommended reading on predatory marriage. I didn't have to go look for it as it was in my TBR pile thanks to millycat.
A very good read. It's about more than a young gold-digger marrying an elderly pensioner. It's about the loneliness of seniors when they lose their partners, long standing sibling rivalery, family secrets and the life long effects war has on people. The author effectively uses humor to tell a story about difficult subjects. The ending is so funny it made me laugh out loud.
