Duplicate copy of the book, given to me for Christmas. I have already read this and will make it available.
I read this remarkable little book in one day. I just couldn't put it down. It is an extraordinary tale of two friends living on either side of the fence at a concentration camp - Bruno (son of a Nazi commandant) and Shmuel (a Polish Jew incarcerated in the camp). A key theme is the innocence of youth and the story is full of hope in some ways as well as being intensely sad. But born on exactly the same day, the two boys live such different lives and it is this stark contrast amid the horrors of the Holocaust that provides the backdrop for their friendship as they stumble towards a most terrible ending.

A really good book, simple and well written with a very powerful message. The juxtaposition of the innocence of the children and the pure evil of what is gong on around them is very moving. I guessed how it would end as soon as Bruno's plans for his expedition were revealed but this did not at all detract from the ending.
A very worthwhile read.
