This book has an introduction and a notes section mostly explaining foreign or literary quotes.

There is lots of philosophical talk making the book not an easy read. I was first a bit wondering where is the love in this book. It was very interesting though and the introduction was of use. It's best read after the story itself. This book is a sequel to "Rainbow" which tells about Ursula's earlier life. I had not read it but that was no problem.
