1001 books

Holly Golightly, glittering socialite traveller, generally upwards, sometimes sideways and once in a while down. She's up all night drinking cocktails and breaking hearts. She's a shoplifter, a delight, a drifter, a tease. She hasn't got a past. She doesn't want to belong to anything or anyone. Not to 'Rusty' Trawler, the blue-chinned, cuff-shooting millionaire man about women about town. Not to Salvatore 'Sally' Tomato, the Mafia sugar-daddy doing life in Sing Sing. Not to a starving writer. Not even to her one-eyed rag-bag pirate of a cat. One day Holly might find somewhere she belongs. Until then she's travelling.

This was not what I expected. I haven't seen the film, but I have seen clips of it, and still photos so I thought I had an idea what the book was going to be like. I'm guessing the film bears little resemblance to the book.

Having said that, I liked it. I liked it a lot. It was slightly dark, which was the part I hadn't expected, which gave it some depth. It had an interesting storyline, good characters and hooked you in from the start.

There are three short stories in the book as well, all of which were enjoyable.

I received the book in the mail today, it looks really great with the old skool cover and feel, I can't wait to start reading!

Edit:
I finished the book a couple of days ago after I flew through it. It was a nice read, the story was perphaps a bit short for my liking, but then again it was enough as it was. I've pm-ed Danielle23 for her adress, as soon as I get it, I wil send de book on its way!

Journal Entry 11 by Danielle23 at Sunderland, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Thursday, June 24, 2010
The book arrived a few days ago but I've only just had the time to journal it as life is pretty hectic at the moment. I've one bookring before this and then I'll begin. I've wanted to read this one for years and so am quite looking forward to it. Thank you for giving me this opportunity xx

Journal Entry 12 by Danielle23 at Sunderland, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Friday, July 2, 2010
I enjoyed the story within this book but I also found it too short. It seemed to end too abruptly and left a lot of loose ends for me.

Will send off to the next participant as soon as I can xx

Very much enjoyed this first short foray into Truman Capotes work. Was not sure what to expect as I've never seen Breakfast of Tiffany's (although I am aware of the iconic image and the general hype surrounding it). An easy read, excellent descriptive prose and the short stories at the end were very good too.
This book is now ready to travel on to sfogs in New Zealand.

Arrived in today's mail with the following note enclosed:-

'Hi,
After our rushed trip to Newcastle... way back when... I seem to have misplaced this book as I lost patience with the Bookcrossing site. With the latest upgrade & now without wings, I'm just not having a smooth run. So now this book travels to you without a journal entry. Sorry for the delay.
Happy Reading.
LadyIndigo'

Thanks for sending on LadyIndigo. Hopefully you'll be flying again soon. X

Journal Entry 27 by wingjumpinginwing at Vancouver, British Columbia Canada on Thursday, August 25, 2011
Arrived safely--thank you! I've recently seen the movie for the first time, so I'm interested to see how it compares to the book.

Journal Entry 28 by wingjumpinginwing at Vancouver, British Columbia Canada on Friday, September 2, 2011
I enjoyed this book very much. The details differed a bit from the movie, but the overall story was the same. Usually I prefer to read a book before seeing the movie, but I think seeing the movie first contributed to my enjoyment of this book. I liked the short stories as well.

I have Aberpeter's address and will get this book in the mail very soon.

Journal Entry 36 by wingearthcaroleannewing at Falkirk, Scotland United Kingdom on Tuesday, November 22, 2011
I saw this film a couple of years ago and was disappointed in it but I thought that was because of all the hype that surrounded it. However like others, I found the book disappointing as well. I much preferred the following short stories although I find myself frustrated by them simply because they are too short.
