Little Women is an American classic, adored for Louisa May Alcott’s lively and vivid portraits of the endearing March sisters: talented tomboy Jo, pretty Meg, shy Beth, temperamental Amy. Millions have shared in their joys, hardships, and adventures as they grow up in Civil War New England, separated by the war from their father and beloved mother, „Marmee,“ blossoming from „little woman“ into adults. Jo searches for her writer’s voice and finds unexpected love ... Meg prepares for marriage and a family.. Beth reaches out to the less fortunate, tragicaly .. and Amy travels to Europe to become a painter. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s own Yankee childhood, Little Women is a treasure – a story whose enduring values of patience, loyalty, and love have kept this extraordinary family close to the hearts of generation after generation of delighted readers.

The complete and unabridged classic Edition with eight pages of photos from the film

I enjoyed this book, it was similar in most ways to the original Little Women film (except the ending) and the story was told in a very gentle and genteel(sp?) way.

I would happily recommend this book to pretty much anyone.

I am going to send this to gothmarcus shortly as it is on his wishlist and I promised it to him.

Many thanks Fibe - I'd completely forgotten you were sending me this, so it made my day when I got home from work to find it on the doormat :)

A fascinating, if not heavy-going, story of the four March sisters: Amy, Jo, Meg and Beth. How they grew up under the shadow of the American Civil War. It's a book I've been wanting to read for years and I'm pleased I had the opportunity. The story itself is uplifting, tragic and beautiful in equal parts.

Updated 7 February: On its way to LaPeste as an RABCK after I spotted it on her wishlist!
