Caught it at the first June Evanston BC Meet-up. Thanks, Rampallion!
I appreciate this book without really loving it. Russo writes some great, fully rounded characters, and he really knows how to convey a sense of place--in this case, an old factory town at the nadir of decline, presided over by the lady of the mansion on the hill across the river. However, I grew really frustrated with the main character, almost as much as his ex-wife in the story does. I know his passive temperament is a large point in the story, but I still wanted to shake him and say, "DO something!" I enjoyed his awful dad though.
