The Birthday Party (Pinter plays)

Ok... so I didn't really like this one at all. Despite it only being a fairly short drama it took me what seems to be ages to get through, simply because it didn't grab me. The characters don't seem realistic (if that's what they're supposed to be) nor do they seem to function well as features of an absurdist play either, and at the end of the day I just don't know what to make of them or the play. The bits that were slightly enjoyable (particularly in Act 2) does not yield enough information to really support any real interpretation, let alone any form of epiphany or the like.
It is of course conceivable that the play works better played than read, but I still don't see any real appeal in it whatsoever.
So, it certainly seems that Pinter isn't my cup of tea, unless I've just managed to grab one of his worst plays as a starting point. At this point, I'm not really inclined to try another unless somebody would recommend another play by him very strongly and in in a way that would gain my interest again.
As for now, moving on to greener pastures.
And hopefully Pinter's play will find someone (at least, eventually) who will appreciate it...

I agree with nalle42 - the best thing is that it is so short. Did we pay a visit to Bedlam?
