I found this book at a thrift store and thought I would pick it up to see what all the contraversy was about. I deliberately did not read any reviews or research what had happened (I don't watch TV) so I did not see the Oprah episode. I knew that there were lies in the book but decided to read it as fiction rather than a memoir.......

I started rolling my eyes in the opening chapter where he finds himself unconscious and wounded on a plane - as if. At the very least the physician who placed him on the airplane would be obligated to stitch him up and ensure that he was stable. Not to mention that the airline or pilot would accept a wounded, unconscious passenger who is covered with blood and vomit onto their airplane - please just picture it.

I had to stop reading during his trip to the dentist - where he was given two root canals without any freezing. Localized anesthetic is not a contraindicator for substance abuse treatment as he claimes in the book.

I was insulted. I don't mind a good stretch of a story - but if I wanted to read science fiction I would have picked a book from that genre. I honestly don't know how anyone could have read that book and believed that these scenerios were even a possibility.

I am setting it free to insult someone else

Passing this on to a friend who is addicted to books....not sure if she will like this or not but if not she can pass it along to someone else who might :)
