Bought at the 'Wee Book Inn' on Whyte Ave in Edmonton on Friday 15th August 2008, with friends Brian & Fire. Then fell asleep on the plane the following night while watching the movie on the Air Canada plane on the way home. Very special days and special memories.
Have just finished this week. Its a difficult subject matter and I found it a bit of a struggle to go back to at times, I had to be in the right mood or I would find it quite depressing. But as I progressed I began to come to terms, as perhaps the character Hagar does, that it is all part and parcel of lifes journey and is perhaps something we should address more in society. It's a very moving account none the less and I felt deeply affected at times. Hagar's personality reminded me very much of my own mother who passed away in difficult circumstances. It also made me think again about how your wishes can be so easily run rough-shod over when you reach a certain age, and are deemed no longer capable of making decisions for yourself. And the dread of being forcibly put into an 'old people's home' and losing independence. Has left me in a very reflective mood.
This book also holds great sentimental value so have added it to permanent collection.
