'Ralph's Party' Completed Bookray!
Registered by lucycat of Hull, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on 5/1/2003
This Book is Currently in the Wild!
15 journalers for this copy...
From the back cover:
'Meet the residents of 31 Almanac Road in a romantic and engrossing novel that takes you up the garden path, through the front door and into the most intimate parts of other people's lives.
Ralph and Smith are best friends. Until they fall for Jemima their new flatmate. Jem knows one of them's the man for her, but which one?
Karl and Siobhan live in the flat above. Happily unmarried for fifteen years, it looks as if nothing can spoil their domestic idyll.
Except maybe Cheri the femme fatale in the top flat. She's got her eye on Karl and isn't about to let his fat girlfriend stand in the way...'
The following is pasted across from my journalling from my original copy of 'Ralph's Party' (currently making new friends in the States)...if you'd like a peek at that journal, it can be found here.
I enjoyed this one, but then was blown away by Lisa Jewell's next book, 'thirty-nothing' (the story of which ran an almost direct parallel to events in my own life at the time, unsurprisingly it has remained a firm favourite.;O))
This is good fun too, an intelligent romp through a 'chick-lit' style plot with enough recognisable characters and regrettably familiar situations to set bells ringing all over the place....oh, and one of the most gratifyingly grotesque and utterly deserved comeuppances you can possibly imagine...
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
I picked up another copy of this lovely (and very English) chick-lit book, so I'm going to send it off sight-seeing in my second ever BookRay.
Thanks for playing, and I hope everyone enjoys the book!

Ralph's Party just arrived in the post! Can't wait to start reading it - it's one of those books I've kept meaning to read for ages. When I've read it I'll add my review and pass it on.
I really enjoyed this book. I've read Lisa Jewell's other novels so I kind of knew what I was expecting, but it was fun reading how the flatmates and other people living on different floors of the house interlinked. The characters were interesting, not stereotypes. Jem was great - small and dark haired and quite kookie. Lots of fun. I also liked Ralph and Siobhan, deep and interesting. So glad I joined in this Book Ray. Hope the rest of you enjoy it!

Hey-up me hearties!
I just had a mail from Vivian (Constant-Reader) to say that she's received 'Ralph's Party' but is a bit bogged down with ring/ray books at the mo, and would like to send the book straight on to the next reader, and be added on to the end of the list (hence the change in running order above.)
I'd just like to say again (I'm sure on behalf of everyone in the ray), thank you so much, Vivian, for your kindness and consideration. It's very much appreciated. :O)

Received earlier this week as part of a bookring. I am inundated with rings/ray right now so I am going to pass on this right now and get it back at the end of the list. I will be posting this on Saturday morning to the next person on the list.

I received this book in the mail, and will start it after I finish reading my current bookring book. Thanks for sharing your book, lucycat!
This was a quick, fun read. I could have done without some of the more graphic details in a few places in the book, but overall I enjoyed reading it. As an American, it's also fun to read some of the different language and expressions that we don't use in the U.S.
Mailed today to MissJAS. Enjoy!
Received in the mail today, and already jumped into the first 3 chapters!
A fun read, like sharing gossip with a good friend! It made me want a beer! Took me a while to figure out what a "spliff" was...there was quite a bit of slang that I did not know. I greatly enjoyed it, thanks for sharing Lucycat.
Mailed to Moogytee 8/6/03!

'Tis here! Thanks, missJAS and Lucycat! Just read and very much enjoyed "Thirty-nothing," so I'm sure I'm going to like this one, too!
Good book! It's the first thing I've read since having LASIK eye surgery, so it was a bit slow-going. :) It was more dark and complicated than 'Thirty-nothing', but for some reason I found myself a bit less involved in the characters (maybe because there were more of them?). I enjoyed it, though. There's a lot going on here despite the light, 'chick-lit' feel. Thanks for including me in this ray!
Arrived in the mail today, looks terrific. I'm looking forward to reading this one!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and was so pleased with the ending! The antics of Smith during the party were really amusing.

This was a fun book, but I didn't like it quite as much as Thirtynothing. I wondered when the title of the book was actually going to mean something in the story! This whole book was like watching Melrose Place - drama, drama, and more drama. The only thing I really wasn't happy with was the Siobhan-Karl outcome. I *really* wanted them back together. Rick was a putz.
Thanks for sharing this one, lucycat. I look forward to more by Lisa Jewell!

This was a quick and easy read, my first book by Lisa Jewell. It has gone out in the mail today to spaceystacey.
Just received in the mail today. Will be reading soon and passing along.
My sincere apologies to all. I had somehow misplaced this gem of a tale and just relocated it. Mailed out 6/24/04 to next reader on the list.

I forgot to journal this when I rec'd it, but I have read the book now. Great book. Their lives were so intertwined, it was amazing, very much like Melrose place! But like Ellymae58, I was unhappy with the Karl-Siobahn relationship. Thanks for letting me particiate! Who gets this Next??!!
It's here! :O)
Thank you *so* much to everyone who has participated in this ray/ring thing...I can't believe how far this book has travelled in a year and a half, how many times it has been read...and that it's still in one piece!
What a wonderful end to 2004...and a rather inspiring start to 2005! :O)
