A Long Long Way

Came across Sebastian Barry's name on a best of 2008 novel list. Although A Long, Long Way wasn't the book on that list, this is a splendidly written novel (what is it in the Irish genes that produces so many remarkable prose writers?). Taking place predominately on the battle fields of the First World War, Willie Dunne's old Irish world is changing with the rebel uprising. First rate book about war (pushes close to All Quiet on the Western Front) that is beautifully written.

I really enjoyed this book. The portrayal of the war was very powerful.
