MargBC brought this along unregistered to a recent meetup, so I immediately snagged it :-)

What I love about Jodi Picoult's writing is the way she asks a question of her characters (How would you feel if your only reason for existence was to be a donor? What if the DNA test gave a false result? What if it was your child who took guns to school?) and lets them explore it. They don't always come up with the answers you'd expect (or like), but the journey towards those answers is always an interesting one.

There's some great questions in this one. Like what is faith? What can you believe? Can a good deed really atone for a bad one? And the big one - what would you do to keep a child safe?

An amazing read. Truly fantastic! Read in just over a day, I was racing home from work so I could keep reading, and keep reading, and keep reading! I cried several times during it, which is a sign of a great book for me, one where the author has made me feel for the characters, even knowing that they aren't real. This is definitely going on my favourite books list!

Thanks so much FC for passing this along, and I've promised it to Sherlockfan next, so will be taking to the meetup next month.

I've tried making release notes twice but they keep deleting themselves :( But its a controlled release anyway, so it doesn't matter so much I guess...The book is now in the hands of the wonderful Sherlockfan :-)

I 'caught' this book from Discoverylover at a BC meetup back in February and when it was recently returned to me by our daughter who'd snaffled it immediately after I read it but before I'd recorded its receipt, and my views.

What an amazing writer Jodi P is. She ventures down so many paths and to many sensitive ares, each time ending up with thoroughly well-researched and unforgettable topics. This book was deeply moving and thought provoking. Another classic.
This was another classic.

AMAZON EDITORIAL REVIEW
" The acclaimed #1 New York Times bestselling author presents a spellbinding tale of a mother's tragic loss and one man's last chance at gaining salvation.

"Can we save ourselves, or do we rely on others to do it? Is what we believe always the truth?

"One moment June Nealon was happily looking forward to years full of laughter and adventure with her family, and the next, she was staring into a future that was as empty as her heart. Now her life is a waiting game. Waiting for time to heal her wounds, waiting for justice. In short, waiting for a miracle to happen.

"For Shay Bourne, life holds no more surprises. The world has given him nothing, and he has nothing to offer the world. In a heartbeat, though, something happens that changes everything for him. Now, he has one last chance for salvation, and it lies with June's eleven-year-old daughter, Claire. But between Shay and Claire stretches an ocean of bitter regrets, past crimes, and the rage of a mother who has lost her child.

"Would you give up your vengeance against someone you hate if it meant saving someone you love? Would you want your dreams to come true if it meant granting your enemy's dying wish?

"Once again, Jodi Picoult mesmerizes and enthralls readers with this story of redemption, justice, and love."

I searched Wish Lists to see who would like this book next. The only NZ person who wished for it has not registered any books and does not appear to be active at all. I send a message to one person in Australia who really does want a copy but she wants it for her permanent collection to complete a set and really I think it is nicer for BC books to circulate. Sent a message to another Australian who I'd met at the Christchurch Convention and she hasn't bothered to reply so I'm releasing it this evening.

Released 14 yrs ago (6/9/2009 UTC) at Macs Brewbar & Restaurant in Wellington City, Wellington Province New Zealand
