Being addicted as I am to dodgy Sci-Fi I couldn't resist Aetm when she asked me to spiral these... They're due to move on to Alriddoch in due course, but first both I and my husband expect to enjoy them :)
From the back of the book:
Sworn to heal, forced to survive.
Col. Shropana was willing to destroy the Jorenians just to capture Dr. Cerijo Torin for the Allied League - so she felt little remorse for selling him out to the brutal Hsktskt slave traders. But just as Cherijo made her escape, the man she once loved stabbed her in the back - and handed her over to the same slavers.
Alone, hated, and feared by her fellow slaves, Cherijo needs all her training to save those in need - a difficult task amidst the endless brutality of their captors, but a far better fate than being the Leagues' guinea pig. As she struggles desperately to help those she can, Cherijo reminds herself that good doctors don't let personal vendettas stand in the way of duty. But then, most doctors aren't Cherijo Torin...

I did not enjoy this one as much as the first two. While the situation aboard the slave-station is dramatic and gripping, Cherijo just doesn't develop as a character in this novel. Her reactions to various characters also lack credibility. Don't get me wrong, I found the book hard to put down, but I got very annoyed at her A LOT.
Also the work on Irish (Oirish?) slang for one of the characters showed, but he used too much per sentence so it grated a bit (a bit too Oirish for me) and set me against what should have been an enjoyable character.
My husband had not read this one, having accidentally skipped it to read Shockball, which he did not at all enjoy. Based on my synopsis he won't be reading this one, but I would still recommend Endurance to fans of the first two Stardoc novels, and some of the new characters are great.
SPOILER ALERT: Highlight to read
The bits that annoyed me: how she consistently refuses to trust Reever despite his transparent actions throughout the novel, juxtaposed with how she swallows whole whatever comes out of other characters mouths (Noarr, Kelly, Wonlee). If you're mistrustful, you apply it fairly much everywhere.
And I thought that things were a lot more obvious in this book than in the others.
