*The Pillars of the Earth

After all it was quite quick (it's a more than one thousand pages kind of book!) and I just finished it.
This doesn't mean that I think it is a great book and that I just couldn't put it down, not at all!!! On the contrary, although I think it's a very well researched background (and I enjoyed learning more and more about life among the people, the clergy and the nobles in the medieval age - XIIth century), the plot turns to be too much of a soap opera for my taste.
The bad guys are really, really bad and the good ones are always so good it turns to be annoying. Also the characters of Ellen or Aliena seem a bit too much emancipated to be true...
Anyway, I guess it was the right kind of book for me at this time. Anything more profound would have been difficult to get going and this way I didn't even had to bother to mark the page I was reading: a bit before or after the pages I had previously read didn't make much difference, and that was a good thing.
It's now available for whoever wants to give it a try!
