Murder with Puffins (Meg Langslow Mysteries)
2 journalers for this copy...
This is the 2nd book in the Meg Langslow series. I loved this author's Turing Hopper series, and I'm looking forward to starting this series soon.
From the cover -
A romantic getaway was what Meg Langslow had in mind when she and her boyfriend planned a trip to the tiny island of Monhegan off the coast of Maine. They would spend their days hiking the trails and their evenings by the fire. But in this remote place, birds of a feather flock together and Meg quickly learns that this vacation isn't going to go as planned. Although the puffins have already flown south for the winter, the island still harbors a flock of birdwatchers - and Meg's family...
Discovering her parents, her brother, her aunt, and a nosey neighbor on the island is Meg's first surprise. Her second one comes when a body is found and her father is accused of murder. Now, instead of quiet walks by the water, Meg finds herself scouring the island for clues. In the process, she uncovers more than she bargained for. Meg's only hope for finding the killer now rests on a wing and a prayer...

I'm enjoying this new (to me) series very much. I've read Andrews' Turing Hopper series, and enjoyed it. This series is very different, and much more madcap. It reminds me of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.
This book is a good example of a spin on the "locked room" type of mystery. A hurricane has stranded Meg and Michael on Monhegan Island with a bunch of birders, zany relatives, an eccentric artist, and a murderer. I wondered when I got to the last chapter if this storyline would carry on into a later book, but they did find the murderer at the last minute.
I loved the bit on pp. 63-64 about Meg's "deplorably literal streak," while examining the Happy Puffin Family series, looking for the 1st in the series book, esp. since I just started this series by reading the 1st 2 books. :)
This book is reserved for the September Animal release challenge.

This has been sitting on the bookshelf at work for too long. Thought I'd bring it home to re-release. I was thinking of the OBCZ, but I may just take it to the con in April. It would make a nice themed release!

Brought this home last weekend when I was cleaning off the bookshelf to make room for new books. Apparently the puffins want to be released in the wild!
