This is a book I picked up at the CILIP Youth Libraries Group Conference in September.

From the back:
Planet Earth is dying...so can a royal prince, a rock musician and a feisty journalist save it from destruction? When the global corporation Dekaydence opens a chain of environmental cafes their enticing blend of great music and fashion prove a massive hit with teenagers, but are the cafes as well meaning as they appear? Three teenagers think not and set out to expose the dark secrets of Dekaydence. But faced with wild metal haggoids, Eye-Spies and ghastly tea, can they succeed?

Black Light is the first in a series of edgy, satirical thrillers for young adults of all ages.

Finally got round to reading this and wasn't a fan. I've read other young adult books that I've really enjoyed but I struggled with this one. There wasn't enough of anything in it to hang on to and I wouldn't describe it as an edgy thriller. There were numerous characters, none of which were particularly well developed. The storyline went so far but flitted around and didn't really resolve any of the threads but just left everything hanging clearly in the hopes people would then want to read the next book. It was also quite preachy in places about the environment which, although the book is about teenagers trying to save the environment, felt out of place within the rest of the narrative and so jarred against the other writing making it a bit disjointed.

The only thing I liked was that different parts were written from different character's perspectives so you got a few different voices weaving through.

Overall, not one I'd recommend.
