This was quite a good book, though a bit long. It seemed to take forever to read! Having said that, it was extremely well written, with several different storylines, a lot of history and geographical information. Excellent!

This turned up as a total surprise, as I don't remember asking for it, but it definitely looks like something I would have asked for, so it must be my terrible memory at play. Many thanks, Fredam! - please let me know what you would like me to do with the book once I've read it. (And if it was a swap, give me virtual kicks to send you whatever it is I owe you!)

This book was wonderful! Three different 'generations' all involved in the same dangerous quest, each learning more about the ones before as they do so. I love it! I'm passing it to Diomedes to read next.

Took this with me from the meetup at the Camel & Artichoke in London, because everyone said I should read it. Who am I to refuse?
I think it was a good read, but I'm not overly excited about it. It took me a long time to get into the story, and I feel it dragged along a bit. I also would have liked to read more from the daughters point of view, because that's the part I enjoyed most.

Read in early September 2010 and like some of the earlier readers I liked the attention to historical and geographical detail There is a great sense of atmosphere and considerable scholarship. The narration as a young girl is really good and the story-within-a-story mode works well. At times it was a tad difficult to read, but overall seems a fine first novel.
