Iain Banks is really back on form with this story. It's a tale of young love thwarted and older love fulfilled. It's a tale of a family's hidden secrets and the measures taken to ensure they remain hidden. It's a story that jumps about between different times and different narrators. But it is very readable with a number of unexpected twists and a feel-good resolution.
