From the back cover -
"Greedy for experience but determined to be good, Flora Dunbar spends a lifetime seeking love, trying to build a future out of the wreckage of her past - an eccentric childhood spent in the shadow of her musical twin, Rory; early marriage to Hugh, a clergyman twice her age; motherhood, which brings her Theo, the son she cannot love; middle-age, when she finds brief happiness in a scandalous affair with her nephew, Colin."

One of the reviews of this book mentions 'disturbing themes' which sums this story up pretty well. It is a very powerful read about a tangled mess of a family and I cried buckets at the end.

I did indeed enjoy it - powerful stuff and very well done. It's one of those books where one feels sorry for absolutely everyone. Thanks for this.

I've had this book for what seems like forever! Thanks for sharing it, Jehanine! Finally reading it now, though not far enough into it to form a definitive opinion. Hopefully it will help me continue my (so far) year of good reading!

Sorry to say, but I gave up on this one.

When I realised I was only on page 48 after 4 days of reading, I asked myself why it was taking so long and realised I have utterly no interest in this book. The plot seemed intriguing at first, but the language was too flowery and long winded for me and the book just didn't hold my interest. Then when you factor in the illicit sex (lusting after a married man, and lust between a brother and sister), ugh, it just was not something I wanted to take any further. I guess I wanted to read this to support a bookcrossing author, but at the end of the day, the book just wasn't for me.

I hope it enjoys its new home on the trpoical island of antigua, where I will be wild releasing it sometime next week.
