From the back cover:
There's a serial killer on the loose. His macabre calling-card? To leave the ABC Railway Guide beside each victim's body. But if A is for Alice Ascher, bludgeoned to death in Andover, and B is for Betty Bernard, strangled with her belt on the beach at Bexhill, then who will Victim C be?

Hercule Poirot is intrigued by this murderer's mind. Something just doesn't ring true about a psychopath who lays his clues so carefully.
Definitely one of Christie's better ones. The whole mystery and all its details are so completely bizarre, yet totally logical after the explanation. The people Poirot gathers around him are an interesting bunch too. I must say I didn't much care for the Alexander Bonaparte Cust interludes, though.

Also, I didn't come to this book completely cold. My brother had told me the solution when I was 10 and for some reason I never forgot it, so even reading this 20 years later I knew the ending. Still, this is a good read even if you know “whodunnit”
