The Dead and the Gone tells the story of how a family in the city cope with the events described in Susan Pfeffer's Life As We Knew It. I loved Life As We Knew It and while I did enjoy this book, I did not feel it was as good. It was interesting to read the different ways the people in the city were affected as opposed to those in the country, and how the residents dealt with it. This is a good book to read but it simply doesn't have the urgency of the first one.

Thanks for the bonus book & all the nice things in my package.
I enjoyed this as much as "Life as We Knew It" but was a bit annoyed that we weren't following Miranda's story - this appears to come in the 3rd book. This tale seemed a little more far-fetched but it rolled along well & I gobbled it up in one sitting.

It's been a couple of years since I read the first volume, so it didn't bother me that the cast of characters was different.
I thought Alex the main character was kind of bitter, sexist and secretive, but the events were interesting enough to keep reading. I finished the book in a day.
One of my libraries has the next volume available as an e-book, and I'd like to read it someday.

I found this book a bit over a year ago: in the beginning of August 2019 from a brewery restaurant Kochi Aidad, Tallinn, Estonia. I'm from Jyväskylä, central Finland, and at the time I was on our yearly road trip to Augustibluus music festival in Haapsalu, Estonia. On our way back home we stopped at this restaurant that we visit every year, and there, upstairs near the toilets, I accidentally found this book! My very first book crossing book to pick up :) I had heard about book crossing but hadn't found/released a book before.
Now, a year later, I finally got round to reading this. I wasn't familiar with the author or the series. I thought the book was OK, not a big page-turner but still kept me reading. As someone mentioned earlier, the main character was indeed sexist and even a bit misogynist (violent towards his little sister, makes all the decisions for his sisters without asking their opinions, etc). That bugged me along the way. But I suppose what can you expect: a conservative catholic upbrining in the midst of a huge global catastrophe trying to protect the only family he has left in the world. He knew no other way how to behave. Also the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic gave this read an eerie touch.
I will soon come up with a place to release this book into the wild and make a new entry about that afterwards :)

It was a very interesting to read. I have not read many books where is some kind of disaster things happening. So it was nice to read about this kind of situations. Even though I did not think all the things are going to happen just like that if it will be true.
