1990 Del Rey paperback of the 1983 first entry in the Incarnations of Immortality series. Cover art by Michael Whelan.
I can let this go after I read:
1967 Chthon [n/a]
1968 Sos the Rope [n/a]
1969 Macroscope [n/a]
1976 But What of Earth? [n/a]
1977 A Spell for Chameleon [read 2014]
1979 Castle Roogna [read 2015]
1980 Split Infinity [read 2023]
1983 Refugee [n/a]
Edit July 24, 2021: This was terrific, about a guy who somehow manages to kill Death, and then by that act, has to assume his role. It allows for some amusing scenarios, and also serves as the author's commentary on the modern world. There is also a very entertaining Afterword. But I mostly skimmed to end for time. I currently have this ranked at #1353 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.

I read this before as a kid, I’m looking forward to reading it again! I found it at a little free library outside Oakland City Church, 2735 MacArthur.
