Henry Pulling, a retired bank manager, meets his septuagenarian Aunt Augusta for the first time in over fifty years at his mother's funeral. Soon after, she persuades Henry to abandon Southwood, his dahlias and the Major next door to travel her way, through Brighton, Paris, Istanbul, Paraguay...Accompanying his aunt, Henry joins a shiftless, twilight society: mixing with hippies, war criminals, CIA men; smoking pot, breaking all the currency regulations and eventually coming alive after a dull suburban lifetime.
Recently picked this very old Penguin edition published in 1972 for a bargain price of 50cents in my local thrift shop. This is going into my bag I take along to work to read in my meal breaks. I will be back to journal my thoughts when read. This will be my first Graham Greene novel :)

This has taken several months to read during my lunchbreaks at work. Henry is a stuffy bachelor recently retired from his job at the bank. He spends his days raising dahlias and there is little excitment in his life. That is until he meets his exotic aunt Augusta at his mothers funeral. She encourages him to join her on a holiday and it is on this trip that he learns a lot about life and himself. Funny enjoyable read! This is a first Greene novel for me and I will definitely read more.
