I can't say enough about how wonderful Jim Dale is as a reader. And the story...amazing. Rowlings does have to thank the fantasy writers before her, Tolkien is what comes to mind but others have mentioned Star Wars, however she has taken some themes, like magic and wizards and orphans, and made them very much her own. I am so happy I've finally given in to "reading" these books.

Zmrzlina and Bookcrossing have just made my day! I'm at home with 'flu today, and after a miserable morning huddled up in bed with two cats and a hot water bottle, I staggered out to the mail box and found two big parcels waiting for me! One was my new bookmarks and labels from the supply store, and the other was a HUGE parcel from Zmrzlina, with the Harry Potter #2 and 3 audiobooks (18 CDs in all!!! I can see I'll be getting a lot of cross-stitch done!!!), plus some cool stickers of the various Hogwarts houses (done in the style of American school pennants), and a little book of sample chapters from some upcoming books. What a total treasury to unwrap on a cold winter's day! It cheered me up no end.

Thanks Zmrzlina!

Ok, I was going to put a "before" picture of the progress of my embroidery on the previous journal entry, but I forgot I'd put the photo of my exciting mail haul. So this is a bit of a wasted journal entry just to hold the photo. Sorry!

Progress report: Listened to the first two CDs, and so far I'm enjoying it as much as the first book. Again, I want to see the movie again now, to compare the two versions.

I didn't manage to get *all* this embroidery done in just the space of two CDs - I actually carried on with it while we were watching a film on TV last night.

No such thing as a wasted journal entry :-) I love watching the progress of the current project. And hope you are feeling much better!

Journal Entry 8 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Sunday, July 20, 2003
Feeling a lot better now, thanks!

I've spent a lazy Sunday listening to Harry Potter and I've just finished disc 7, and have finished the embroidery I was working on, and started another (in the same set as the grapes and berries ones).

Unfortunately, I've had to stop listening just when it was getting really exciting (they're off to search the Chamber of Secrets for the monster!), so I could start dinner. Oh well, hopefully there won't be anything on TV tonight so I can listen to the last CD.

Well, there wasn't anything on TV, but I was about 1 chapter in to the last CD and we got visitors!!! Not fair! :-( (Although it was very nice to see our visitors, but my eyes kept straying to the stereo and wishing I could put the CD back on...)

Not much to see so far on the latest embroidery: shades of cream cotton on a cream background don't show up all that well!(I've boosted the contrast on the photo so you can see it better, which is why the material looks that ugly brown colour - it's actually a nice oatmeal like the other pictures)

Finished! I'll probably have a pause in my Harry Potter listening for a few days* before I start on the next book, so I'll send this one off to ellymae58 tomorrow so she doesn't have to wait until I've finished both books.

*well, that's if the temptation of #3 doesn't overcome the urgent need to get on with some real life stuff like cleaning the house!

I found this when I came home today....wasn't expecting it so fast from New Zealand! Thanks again, FutureCat, for sending this one along right away! So glad this bookring was an audiobook....4th one to arrive in 2 days, and I have a lot of reading to do. It'll be nice to LISTEN instead. :)

Journal Entry 12 by EllyMae58 from El Cajon, California USA on Sunday, August 3, 2003
I'm finally at the halfway point of listening to the CDs. Slow-going for me this time around, as shortly after these arrived my stereo went on the fritz. :( I've only been able to listen in my car...I think I've wasted a lot of gas, driving the long way to all my destinations in order to listen to more of the story!! :) I am so enjoying Jim Dale in this one. His 'portrayal' of Gilderoy Lockhart is cracking me up!

Journal Entry 13 by EllyMae58 from El Cajon, California USA on Tuesday, August 19, 2003
Finished over the weekend. Now waiting on mailing info for Atlaco-Ilihuis. Will be mailed off once I know where to mail it off to. :)

8/22: PM'd again for address.
