This is an excellent book for anyone who listens to audiobooks in their car, because its strongest suit is atmosphere, not suspense. If you listen primarily while commuting, you won't have to force yourself out of the car and spend hours wondering how the latest plot twist will be resolved. On a long drive, you'll get to immerse yourself in the mood while the miles disappear.
Erdrich tells her stories from a variety of points of view and points in time. For instance, the second novel, Tracks, actually takes place before the first novel, Four Souls. As various people tell the stories which center around Fleur Pillager and how she loses and regains her family land, we learn more about them than they perhaps realize. The language is imaginative, beautiful and strongly evocative. There's nobody else writing with Louise Erdrich's style and vision, and I'm glad I got to listen to this set.
So that's one person's opinion. Future readers, what do YOU think?
