I just finished reading this book...or started reading it depending on whether you chart my marathon read form the uninterrupted beginning or end.
It is a simply told highly complex story of a man and a boy at the end of the world trying to survive. I won;t give away any details but throughly enjoyed the story. The tenderness between father and son is not oft written of and while on one level not much happens, an awful lot happens.
I'm going to release this book while here in Amsterdam where I read it.

I took the book out of Lef's cupboard as soon as ottawabill put it in there;-)I thought it might be one of the '1001', but actually it isn't, although Cormac McCarthy has at least two other books in that list.
Still The Road has won the Pulitzer Prize, and it is one of the books of Oprah's Book club, ottawabill said. No small achievements! I intend to read the book and release it again.

A wonderful book! It took me a while to gather up the courage to start reading it, because I was sure it would be a deeply moving book, and so it proved to be. Thank you for providing it, ottawabill!
This autumn, the film based on the book will be released in the Netherlands, but I already found this film trailer:

And this is what I read somewhere: "If you were to spell “can’t” as “cant” in a school essay you will get a D minus. But when Cormac McCarthy did it in The Road, they gave him a Pulitzer. . .";-)

This week I've re-read the book. After 5 years I'd forgotten most of the details. It still is a wonderful albeit oppressive page-turner. I think I'll pass it on one of these days.
Congratulations on winning the Autumn Raffle, Yelle1107!
