"The key to contentment in the Scottish climate is the right attitude to rain - just as in life the key to happiness lies in making the best of what you have.
Bruised in love by her faithless Irish husband, Isabel Dalhousie is a connoisseur of intimate moral issues. As a philosopher, she spends a great deal of her time considering the lives of those around her. There is her housekeeper Grace, whose future she must secure; her niece Cat, who is embarking on a dubious new relationship; and then there is Jamie, Cat's ex-boyfriend, a handsome young musician with whom Isabel is falling helplessly in love."

I love The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series, and expected a lot of this book as well. I'm sorry to say that I was a bit disappointed. Too much philosophy and too little action to my taste. No chit-chat for Isabel Dalhousie, she discusses moral issues, history or politics even with total strangers.
This book will travel along to UK as part of the 1st Sentences Virtual Bookbox. ("To take an interest in the affairs of others is entirely natural; so natural, in fact, that even a cat, lying cat-napping on top of a wall, will watch with half an eye the people walking by below.")

I found the over-egged philosophising annoying and quite unnecessary at times, but grew to be fond of Isabel Dalhousie - and just love her name!
