Freue mich also drauf :o)

13.September:
PS: Check out the Leo-Forum on "guzunder" :)

Next day:
I've now come to the bit where one Feegle dresses up as a bird... who comes up with this kinda stuff! :D
Also: "...the sound of a ton of grass growing every minute."
and here is my theory about the toad: www.frogsofborneo.org

The next-day-after-the-next-day:
Ok, I finished, and it was very entertaining, although, in the second half, the running around in the land of dreams got a bit l_o_n_g_i_s_h (and did remind me a wee bit of Alice in Wonderland), so I give 'only' 8 stars. Maybe, I was also a bit disappointed that there was basically no reference to the disc world as I knew it from other books. Altogether it was a story that can stand well on its own.

'Them as can do, has to do for them as can't. And someome has to speak up for them as has no voices.' p.196

Journal Entry 7 by wingTrinibellwing from Calw, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Sunday, February 15, 2009

Crivens, a grippin' story that wuz ... children's book, but I really enjoyed it.
I am curious how the scottish-English of the feegles will be translated into german (swiss-german would match perfectly I think)
I would say strongly influenced by Alice in Wonderland.
Some of the allusions are very funny (e.g. the blue shining of swords, that shows
the presence of lawyers is certainly "borrowed" from Tolkien)

... as I said - my husband read it first and liked it a lot.
Then I had a go and I was pretty curious about it since I've never read a Disk World book at all.
And I must say I liked it! :-)
The story was fun, the wee free men, too..

In fact I liked it so much that we asked for another Disk World Book (Equal Rites)... :-)
(and already got it, thanks to sheepseeker!)

Will give this book to qantaqa on our next meeting!

Kiki gave me the book today - I'm quite looking forward to reading it. I've read a couple of Terry Pratchett's novels, some of which I enjoyed (Mort, Good Omens), others, I couldn't quite get into (Small Gods).
Unfortunately, the wee free men will have to wait a little while seeing as I have so many books on my MTBR.

Thank you so much for choosing this wonderful book, Kanny74! I had a great time reading it - it was very funny and entertaining. I just loved the wee free men! I'll make sure to read the sequel (and maybe some of Pratchett's other children's books).
Will continue its journey on Monday.

Arrived safely this morning. Have never read a Pratchett before, so am looking forward to this new experience. That is why I love bookcrossing!

Pratchett certainly has a wonderful imagination. I don’t know my classics very well, but I do remember Alice gets stuck down a rabbit hole, so yes, there are some similarities here. But the Wonderland world of Alice is absurd. This discworld is thoroughly thought through and coherent, logical even.
There are other fantasy books this one reminds me of, namely the Narnia chronicles, which also have a land in permanent winter and an ice queen. But then the queen in fairyland creates her realm by borrowing from books and dreams, by drawing from a cultural heritage of common dreams. What a great idea.
The book is filled with great characters, like the toad and of course the Nac Mac Feegles. Still, I don’t think I am going to become a Pratchett fan, because fantasy simply isn’t my preferred genre. In the end it seems too much of a ‘waste of time’. But I am pleased I read the book. It’s charming, funny and entertaining. I certainly understand why it’s one of your favourite books, Kanny74. Thanks for sharing!
Sending this on tomorrow.
