Book #10 in the series.
Under the microscope, the outer bone surface is a moonscape of craters...'Preliminary diagnosis?' 'Deformity of the bone. Maybe. Cortical destruction on a metacarpal. Maybe. Localised infection? Systemic disease process? Postmortem destruction, either purposeful or natural? A combination of the above? I don't have a diagnosis...' The skeleton is that of a young girl, no more than fourteen years old - and forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan is struggling to keep her emotions in check. Coroner Yves Bradette is being evasive, insisting the bones are ancient and of no interest. But it doesn't quite add up, and a frustrated Tempe is convinced that Bradette is hiding something...It's not Tempe's case; she's overwhelmed with more urgent work in the lab...But the nagging in her subconscious won't let up. A memory triggered, deep in her hindbrain - the disappearance of a childhood friend; no warning, no explanation...Working on instinct, Tempe takes matters into her own hands. But she couldn't have predicted where this case would lead, or the horrors it would eventually uncover...Can Tempe maintain a professional distance as the past catches up with her in this, her most deeply personal case yet?

Reading this one now, I'll let you know what I think. :-)
Book Review: I liked the story in this one, there have been people in my life who I knew when I was younger and I always wondered whatever happened to them? In this book Tempe receives some bones and they remind her about her childhood friend Evangeline who disappeared. She becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Evangeline, and finding out whether the bones she has are her friend's. After looking into her friend Evangaline's disappearance, Tempe and sister Harry are being followed and threatened. The case becomes darker before the truth is revealed.

Oh no no no.... The most amazing thing about Bookcrossing is also the absolutely worst thing about it. A book arrives at your door, you pick it up and think I've never heard of the author before but it looks interesting. You read the book and you think its amazing and you just have to read the rest of the books written by the author! This was one of those books. I almost read it all in one sitting and felt a bit sad when it ended. I can't pinpoint why I like this book so much, it was just weel-written with a really intersting story. I now simply must read the rest of the books in the series so I'm off to fantasticfiction.co.uk to find all the titles and then add them to my wishlist.

Got this from DitteL for a book box I'm participating in... Thanks!
thank you :)
I liked this book very much. It is very intensive, and the search for her lost friend gives a great insight in Tempe's personality. It is a very complex story. I also like that forensic anthropology is explained so well, although I don't always understand all the names of the bones in English (I don't even know most of them in German *g*).
The linguistic anthropology with the letters and poems was very interesting, too.
