From amazon.ca:
In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s works, Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea.

At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant, but as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the desk, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong...

With surprising twists, spine-tingling turns, and a setting that proves as uncomfortably claustrophobic as it is eerily beautiful, Ruth Ware offers up another taut and intense read in The Woman in Cabin 10—one that will leave even the most sure-footed reader restlessly uneasy long after the last page is turned.

Although I find Ware's novels to be formulaic and fairly standard for the genre, I do enjoy them as a pleasant break from heavier novels.

I like them because they are easy to follow, 2-4 main characters that are just defined enough for me to care about them, but not so much detail that I have to try and keep track of who is who. Her plot lines are intriguing and have some interesting twists.

Lo Blacklock is a trravel journalist who is a complicated soul. She has panic attacks, a long distance boyfriend, is struggling to get ahead in her career, probably drinks too much and to top it off, she just went through a home invasion where she was attacked by the perpetrator.

Although she is looking forward to the once in a lifetime opportunity for a trip on the maiden voyage of the luxury liner, Aurora, she is exhausted and worried about all the work she will have to do.

Immediately she becomes caught up in intrigue and starts sleuthing to find out what the splash she heard outside her cabin window actually was and this leads her into danger she could not have seen coming.

Lo is clever, insightful and brave - and the passengers and crew definitely underestimate her abilities.
