I was visiting Horsham today and went to Starbucks to leave a Bookcrossing book. I picked up this and some other books. Next weekend I plan to release these books at a picnic organised by a member of www.justfortheloveofit.org. This site promotes a community who give various things, skills or their time to others for free. This is part of a larger ‘Freeconomy’. Registration is free and once signed up you receive details of other members in your immediate area.
The picnic is on Sunday 17th August. It will be held at Highdown Hill in Goring at Midday. All are welcome. I do not know any other details at the moment. If you are interested, please email me via the message facility on this site, and I may know more about the event.

I went to the cinema, to see the neww Bond movie, and noticed that this book was still where I had left it.

I went to see an old film called 'The Conversation' screened by Worthing Film Club at The Dome cinema on 10th November. After having a post movie drink in the bar I spotted this book on the way out. I'd read about bookcrossing on www.artistsandmakers.com and so was familiar with and interested in it, but this was my first find. As well as the novelty appeal of the process, the fact that this was by Cecelia Ahern drew me. Although I do find the whole 'chick-lit' genre a bit tiresome, I will dip in and out if there is something to draw me, and in this case the fact it was set in Dublin and one of the characters is an art historian. Between 1997 - 2000 I lived in Dublin in a flat below an art historian! What I mostly enjoyed from this book was the obvious familiar references to places in Dublin I knew and also London where some of the action is also set and where I've also previously lived. Although the story is fairly predictable and you more or less know where it's going, you're still wondering quite how it's going to get there and if it's all going to end up as you hope. There are a few particularly funny scenes and you can imagine it being made into a BBC film for instance. The back cover boasts of her previous novel 'P.S. I Love You' being a Hollywood film and that she is an executive producer on another American sitcom about an Amnesiac called 'Samantha Who'. I am also interested in the fact she is the daughter of Bertie Ahern who was the prime minister (Taoiseach) during the time I lived in Ireland.
