WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Still haven't figured out how to enter Rogers Park Presbyterian Church. It keeps jumping back to Rogers Park, which is an entire neighborhood or one of the parks in it. At any rate, I left the book in the choir room at RPPC.
Released for Tartan Day Challenge.

On its way!
I selected this book from the mystery/thriller VBB, thanks so much for including it and the fast shipment! I am really looking forward to reading this new author and I hope to really enjoy it.
This was a new to me author and I enjoyed the book, it was short and an easy read. Detective John Rebus is added to the task force searching for a serial killer loose on the streets of Edinburgh who is targeting young girls. During the investigation John receives several letters delivered to his home containing a little note and a string tied into a knot, but does not immediately connect them to the murders.
Jim Stevens is a reporter who is investigating a drug ring on his own time and feels that he has the goods on Rebus's brother's involvement and convinces himself that John is involved as well. When he starts to get in the way of the murder investigation things might not turn out well for him.
I enjoyed the story and look forward to more in the series.

Thank you, bookstogive! I fell in love with Edinburgh when I visited a couple years ago, so I look forward to reading some books set there.
I enjoyed this, with the Edinburgh setting. And it's always nice to start a series at the beginning!
I enjoyed this passage (reminds me of the ongoing discussion on some forum threads):
"Once upon a time, he had actually read the books that he bought, but these days he seemed to have so little time. Also, he was more discriminating now than he had been then, back in the old days when he would read a book to its bitter end whether he liked it or not. These days, a book he disliked was unlikely to last ten pages of his concentration."

Putting this back into bookstogive's Mystery/Thriller/Suspense VBB (round 20).

Received today. It may have been here sooner, but we returned from vacation today. Thank you for sharing this book with me. Rankin is a new author for me. Hope I like him.
I like when I read the first in the series, first. I am not sure if I like John Rebus or not. The story finished abrubtly. I am hoping that the author ties up the lose ends in the next book. The story is about a series of murders in his city. Rebus sets to catch the killer and finds out it is related to him. Authors seem to love to involve the family of the detectives in horrible ways in their story lines. As a daughter of a detective, this never touched our lives or the lives of the officers we knew.
