A quick read. I found some of the characters so outrageously unbelievable that it detracted from the overall story. The writing and descriptions are quite beautiful.

Seeing as I needed a good airplane book for tomorrow, this was a perfect catch at the meetup tonight. I'm sure it will get good mileage (har har har.) I've been wanting to read this! Thanks, Yahbooboo!

I started reading this at Logan airport a few weeks ago and was completely absorbed - until I got off the plane. I picked the book up again tonight and finished the second half. All in all, I really liked this book - especially since my inspiration for finishing the book was that I watched the movie tonight after finishing the last chapter. If I had seen the movie first, I probably wouldn't have even been interested in reading this because the movie was Crap (note the capital c.)
I think that the extreme stereotypes in this book do exist in various parts of the country - and, after all, we are viewing them through the eyes of a young girl so of course the features of each foster home will be exaggerated, for better or for worse.
I will bring this to the next meetup to make sure it travels on in bookcrossing!

I got this book from mozzfan at the Chicago meetup last week. I really liked it a lot... I found it very moving and sad. It made me want to sign up to be a foster parent just to prevent a few kids from having to get into situations even one-tenth as bad as the ones Astrid was stuck in. I agree with an earlier journaler that some of the characters were completely bizarre, but I didn't find them unbelievable.

I've offered this to several friends and expect that one may take me up on it. Will journal or do release notes if I need to send it to the wild!

My first friend to write back wants the book and may release it during her upcoming trip to Italy! How cool would that be?! Happy travels, book.

This book was great. Much better than the movie. I think it would also make for a great second book. I would love to know what became of Astrid.
